My wife and I got married five years ago and we’ve both had the same ordinary run-of-the-mill jobs we’ve had since before we got married. Through a series of unfortunate events we’ve recently inherited a tidy sum of money, and after funding our retirements and investing in a house, I have the big idea of going into business for ourselves.
My wife isn’t so keen. She’s not kind of the risk-taker that I think we can afford to be, with at least a portion of this windfall. So, I’m somewhat in the position of seeing if I can talk her into investing in a franchise or a startup.
So, I went looking for the most successful husband-and-wife entrepreneurs and I actually found quite a few of them, which frankly both surprises and encourages me. Check out some of these couples: Stewart & Lynda Resnick, married 1973, owners of major bottled water and fruit companies [https://www.kalw.org/post/water-and-agricultural-empire-stewart-and-lynda-resnick]; Bluemercury co-founders Barry Beck & Marla Beck, married 2002, of nationwide cosmetics brand retailer Bluemercury [https://finance.yahoo.com/news/bluemercury-founders-barry-beck-marla-130700926.html]; Marian & Michael Ilitch, married 1954, co-founders of national pizza chain Little Caesars [https://www.detroitnews.com/story/news/local/detroit-city/2017/02/13/mike-ilitch-business-empire/97837674]; Robert & Tammira Lucas, married 2011, serial entrepreneurs [https://www.blackenterprise.com/husband-wife-serial-entrepreneurs].
Now to convince Kerry that that could be us. Or at least we could bothdo jobs that aren’t so ordinary.
